Uppsala
Venue
We are glad to announce the next ECVCP Summer School, which will be held from Tuesday 13th until Saturday 17th June at the Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science Center (VHC) at Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Uppsala.

Preliminary Program
The Scientific Program includes 4 full days of lectures and practical sessions on the following topics:

“Laboratory animals and toxicology”
by
Anne Provencher DVM, MSc, Dipl ACVP, Dipl ECVCP, Fellow IATP. Charles Rivers Laboratories, Montreal, Canada.
The lectures and cases will cover the approach to clinical pathology data in the context of toxicologic/preclinical studies, including differences with diagnostic setting and particularities of laboratory animals. Data sets, including hematology (including in some cases images from bone marrow smear evaluation), coagulation, clinical chemistry and urinalysis data will be provided and discuss so participants can gain familiarity with those concepts. (10h)
"Exotic Animal Clinical Pathology: Review of Hematology, Biochemistry and Cytopathology"
by
Rand J Wilson, BS, DVM, MRCVS, Dipl ACVP, RCVS Recognised Specialist in Exotic Animal Pathology: Wildlife, Zoo and Exotic Species Clinical Pathology
This will be a review of the differences and key take home points of the hematology, chemistry and cytopathology of exotic animals with an emphasis on avian, reptile, and amphibian species. There will be a lot of visual examples, with interactive powerpoint presentations and slide evaluations and examining unknowns and challenging participants to think outside the box! (4h)
“Training for the exam”
by
Catherine Trumel, DVM, PhD, Dipl ECVCP. Chair for the ECVCP Exam Committeé. Toulouse Veterinary School, France.
This section includes information and practice for the ECVCP exam with Examsoft and Exemplify. Two hours will be with practical evaluation of cytology, blood smear and bone marrow and how the report should be written. (3h)
"Mitosis, Ocular Cytology, Infections and Other Topics"
by
Harold Tvedten, DVM PhD, Dipl ACVP, Dipl ECVCP Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Uppsala, Sweden
Harold has many examples of disease changes in which morphology of cytological and hematological samples allowed reasonable diagnoses for the veterinarian in charge of the case. With the various lecture titles are a collection of examples, mainly from Harold`s case load over the past 50 years. The objective is to help us better make diagnoses and not primarily to pass ECVCP or ACVP Board examinations. (5h)
”Hematology instrument, maximum benefit in hematological diagnosis”
by
Inger Lilliehöök, DVM, PhD, Dipl ECVCP. Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Uppsala, Sweden.
The aim is to provide understanding of different types of hematology instruments and thus knowledge to utilize the diagnostic information that is provided by the instruments. There will be many scatterplots from clinical and published cases. (2h)
“Method validation”
by
Emma Strage, DVM, Dipl ECVCP, PhD and Anna Hillström, DVM, Dipl ECVCP, PhD. Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Uppsala, Sweden.
How should quality goals be determined in method validation studies? How can experiments be designed in order to assess precision, bias, and measurement range? These are some of the topics that will be discussed during this lecture on method validation, with focus on immunological assays. (2h)
